Make something.
Everyone creates. Some people paint or write or build things with their hands. Others create companies, traditions, recipes, experiences, solutions, or entire human beings. Sometimes creation looks like art. Sometimes it looks like figuring out a better way to organize the garage. The scale probably matters less than we think.
It is remarkably easy to spend a life consuming what other people have made. Their stories, ideas, music, products, opinions, entertainment. None of that is necessarily bad. But there is something different about making something ourselves. An idea moves from inside us into the world, and suddenly there is something here that wasn’t here before.
Most things worth making begin badly. The first draft is awkward. The first attempt might fail. The garden might die. The business might flop. The recipe might require pizza afterward. Creation seems to ask for a certain willingness to make something imperfect and see what happens next.
Work is a strange arrangement. We give away a huge portion of our waking lives, and in return someone gives us money. Obviously, the money matters.
