We arrived around 8:15am, which turned out to be the real victory. Rome was still drinking its coffee. The lines were short, everything moved quickly, and the crowds were light enough that our photos didn’t include 400 strangers also pretending to be gladiators.
And then there’s the Colosseum itself. You’ve seen it a thousand times in photos, movies, and history books, but standing inside it is different. The scale of the place makes you stop for a minute and wonder how they built this thing without power tools or a Home Depot.
Moses wandered the ancient grounds looking unusually comfortable. No plagues. No lions. No demands to free anyone. He recommends the Colosseum (but he did whisper something about the Arch of Titus under his breath).
