From the outside, Mel’s looks permanently closed, like a set piece from a post-apocalyptic brunch movie, but step inside and it is alive, bustling, and frying bacon like it means it. Do not let the neighborhood fool you.
The sausage links were heavenly. The pancakes were dense enough to anchor a small boat. The waffles were golden, crisp, and spiritually reassuring. And the bottle of Cholula might have been a Costco exclusive for Goliath. Pictures do not do it justice.
The ceiling is covered in coffee mugs, hundreds of them, like a shrine to caffeine and questionable decision making. I would bring one next time, but they seem to have reached full mug capacity.
Mel’s is the kind of place that restores faith in breakfast. Moses recommends.
