1 / 8If the angel of death gave me one last meal, I’d ask for the sugar rubbed strip from Bastien’s. It is sweet, savory, seared perfection. Like steak didn’t just get invited to prom, it was crowned king. Or queen. You decide.
We sat upstairs, which feels a bit like a VIP treehouse. It is smaller, quieter, and perfect for pretending you are above it all. Downstairs, the bar is sunken, which means the bartenders serve you at eye level. No neck strain, just respect and well mixed cocktails.
The building itself has an octagonal, maybe even decagon-curious feel, like a retro spaceship that landed on Colfax and decided to start grilling steaks instead of probing humans. And we are all better for it.
Parking is a mess. Do not fight it. Go a block down and turn right for free street parking. Or do what Moses did and wander until something opens up.
Bastien’s is not trendy. It is timeless. Come for the steak and stay for the vibe. And if you sit downstairs, do not forget to toast your bartender. Eye contact is basically mandatory.
